2025

Recently reworked from my personal art collection, “SHAG” (2021/2025, 60 in. x 48 in.) is on its way to being framed for an upcoming show. This piece holds a special place for me—it’s deeply personal and one of my favorite works right now.

This painting is a meditation on repetition, identity, and the fragility of self-perception. The kneeling figure repeats across the canvas, layered with a dreamlike quality, as if she’s both present and fading, caught in a cycle of creation and erasure. Each version of her feels slightly different, surrounded by hazy, smoke-like textures that blur the edges of her existence.

For me, the repetition speaks to performance—how we present ourselves over and over, trying to find the version of ourselves that feels right. The colors, soft yet vibrant, shift with her emotional resonance: vulnerability, defiance, introspection. She feels ghostlike, not because she isn’t real, but because she exists in that tension between being seen and being understood.

The layers in this piece—drips, smudges, painted-over areas—don’t just obscure her; they tell her story. She’s fragile, but there’s strength in her persistence. Even as she’s deconstructed and reshaped, she remains. That persistence feels like resilience—proof that we can still exist, even in the face of forces that try to redefine or erase us.

This piece is about more than just how we see her—it’s about how she sees herself. It’s not about perfection or resolution, but about the quiet, complicated struggle of becoming, of existing in that undefined, raw space.
